Background Link: Matt's History right here~
Personality: On the surface, Matt appears to be an innocent, somewhat ditzy teenager in nature. He's very casual and refers to people as "dude", while passively hitting on girls. He has a "youth" attitude, and while not necessarily selfless in nature, he more or less comes off as harmless. Matt shows Phoenix a great deal of desperation when accused of murder, though he appears rather airheaded when he's more concerned with playing around with his cell phone and randomly calling people to make decisions for him than he is with his own case. His expression is always rather worried, and even though he can be pretty rude, Matt appears sincere with every word he says, making him somewhat endearing.

All of this, of course, is a well-calculated act; he is an incredibly skilled actor, after all. Matt Engarde, and everything about him, is nothing but one big lie. Obsessed with preserving his self-image, Matt tries his hardest to appear like he's a refreshing, new guy, someone who's handsome, young, confident, and sincere. As an actor, he wants to maintain his image in the public eye more than anything, and will go so far as to have someone killed in order to maintain it. He is a selfish bastard who has absolutely no concern for others around him.

This selfish nature that causes him to focus primarily on his own goals and his own needs likely stems from insecurity with others. Matt does not trust a single person aside from himself, and therefore does all he can to control them and make sure he can force them to do his every whim. He was, in fact, so controlling of his ex-girlfriend/ex-manager that he ruined her life and career, and she ended up committing suicide. And while his new manager, Adrian Andrews, knows his true nature and can not be controlled in quite the same way, Matt doesn't trust her one bit, knowing all too well that she was plotting his downfall with his rival.

This paranoia and distrust in people even causes him to go so far as to set up cameras to spy on others. When he finds a threat to his public image, he destroys it by hiring an assassin to kill his rival. And even despite his contract with the assassin and the utmost trust that is supposed to exist between the two as employee and client, Matt video tapes him in order to blackmail him as a means of precaution.

Matt does, however, have an existing breaking point. When frightened enough, and pushed to his absolute limits, Matt has exemplified a rather frightening tendency to spiral into a mental breakdown. He causes himself physical harm through deep, raking scratches with his nails, primarily across his face. It is implied that this is how he got the initial scratch marks on his face. These breakdowns, however, are rare things, and he must be pushed to a very high degree of fear and paranoia to actually experience one.

Whether or not Matt Engarde has any mental disorders is uncertain, however he shows borderline sociopath tendencies with his isolated nature and lack of conscience. His double-sided personality might also be interpreted as him having split personality disorder, however it's more likely that his weaker, more endearing facade isn't a separate personality but a mask.

Abilities: Matt Engarde has no special powers or inhuman skills. He is a completely mortal human being (unless summoning glasses of alcohol from thin air simply to look more evil is a special power). As for special skills, Matt is a rather tech savvy guy, who enjoys fancy gadgets like his communicator cell phone, and is skilled enough to set up hidden bugs to record others. He is also ridiculously manipulative, and good at manipulating people into doing his bidding by setting up circumstances to fall in his favor via threats and blackmail. Matt is also one fantastic actor, who's won several awards since his big debut as the Nickel Samurai.

Sample Entry: I've got a dear_mun post here with several threads going~ Several of which either show him being confused, annoyed, flirtatious, angry, or even threatening. If this isn't enough, just let me know and I'll write up a sample as well!
